We have found over the time that a weekend drive to the local Bunnings often becomes an unplanned family adventure. Our sporadic trips seem to coincide quite coincidently with their free entertainment program. Once again, we were not disappointed. Between aisle 14 and 15 we stumbled into the ‘reptile’ section. Steve very literally stumbled into it and before we knew what was happening he was draped in snakes with a big smile on his face. I tried not to be too anxious for Little Man as the Reptile Man told me stories of the very friendly snakes that looked out for his kids at home in the same fashion as perhaps a protective German Sheppard might. I think Sebastian was about as impressed as I was but unlike me he saw no shame in it and did not try to hide his discomfort.
The croc wasn’t much better in Sebastian’s eyes than the snakes. There is no way he would be caught smiling at a crocodile. Somehow the tape around the snout and the dog lead seemed to diminish the threat of danger to me.
Finally we found a reptile safe enough to touch. Ironically, this is the only animal to which I overheard the Reptile Man saying ‘watch out, he will bite’.
